To do the basic care you won’t need any prior knowledge of the car and its system. With just few regular checks and prompt addressing, you can make you car more dependable and safer, for you and your family.

External Checks:

•    Check the tires every week and make sure they are inflated accurately. If possible use tire pressure gauge or else, check them visually ensuring that they appear equal and are properly inflated.
•    External checks of the body and bumper for damages. It can be beneficial for insurance anytime.
•    Examine the fluid leakage beneath the car such as brake and power fluids, oil, transmission or the air-condition water leakage.
•    Apart from normal startup and diesel emission fumes, check if there is any other smoke in the exhaust of your car.
•    Fluid and engine warning lights should be addressed promptly before further driving.

Engine Inspection:

We often open the hood only when the car refuses to start and you have no option than fidgeting with it and trying your luck. This time open it for its care. Check up with the following things to ensure that it is working fine

•    Belts
•    Transmission Fluids
•    Fluid levels of Brake and Power Steering
•    Coolant/antifreeze level (Note: Do not remove the Radiator Cap when the engine is warm or hot)
•    The overall cleanliness of the engine and its oil level

Also, watch for any loose tube connectors or electric cables around the engine. Replace the exposed or worn wires and wrapped or loose belt.

The engine has canisters and containers with fill indication lines, hence while checking the fluid levels check the minimum and maximum lines. Change the worn or leaking radiator and other tubes, before pushing it to the point of bursting.

Check the Battery’s Age and if it not getting properly charged (trouble in easy starting), then get it checked.

When To Change The Oil?

Most of the mechanics recommends changing the oil and a new filter after every 5,000 miles, so do I. While examining it, check its color, it should be relatively clean but will have dark color as it runs through the engine. Also see if it doesn’t go below or above the fill lines. Add some oil if needed.

Other Checkups:

•    Windshield wipers
•    Engine timing belt
•    Spark plugs and its cables
•    Brake lamps, turn signal and head lights
•    Air filter

Check for engine knocking and other noises. Give your best shot to understand your car, your beloved, your sweetheart and increase her Life!
